Ebeye Pier LCU

Local Name:

Ebeye Pier LCU

Depth:

I'm not 100% sure, but the depth here must be about 30 feet. The mast of the LCU still sticks above the surface as of this writing (April 2006).

Anchoring:

You probably shouldn't be anchoring here since this is right at the Ebeye pier! The wreck is provided for information only. I can't imagine that it would be very intereting anyway!

Notes:

This sunk fairly recently (maybe in 2005 sometime?). As of April 2006 this wreck is still there right next to the Ebeye Pier. I believe that it is just an LCU, but I'm not 100% sure of that. I should see if I can find the old Hourglass (our local newspaper) that mentioned that it sunk. (At least I'm pretty sure that it was mentioned in the paper!)

Due to it's location and the fact that is it probably just an old LCU, I don't advise folks to dive this one! It is provided for information only.

Photos:

Recent shot of LCU now on it's side (probably late 2007 it was moved and now rests on it's side). The diver is Tom Parker.

Aerial shot of the Evey pier showing the location of the wreck. When I left Kwajalein in June of 2006, this wreck was right along the pier. As of 1/2/2008 Hal Parker informs me that it appears that there was an attempt to move/refloat the wreck which appears to have resulted in moving it out into the boat channel creating a hazzard and it is now flipped on it's side.

Nearby Attractions:

A few words of caution are due here!

While I believe that this data is fairly accurate, one must apply some common sense when using this data. If the point of origin is a coral head, you may have anchored at a slightly different spot than I did and your bearing to the next attraction could be slightly different than mine. I suggest checking with your own GPS before rolling in!

Also, know roughly how fast you swim so that you know approximately how long it should take to reach the next attraction. You can (and likely will) miss things from time-to-time and you should know when to abort and turn around before you are too far from your boat.

I strongly urge you to try the shorter swims first and build your navigation skills. I have set the cutoff distance for this table to 750 feet, but that is a considerable challenge even for the best navigators. An error of more than a few degrees in poor visibility and you can easily miss your destination at the extreme ranges!
